EM BUTTERWORTH
︎ visual artist + designer ︎Graduated Magna Cum Laude from Virginia Commonwealth University’s Graphic Design program within the School of the Arts. She prides herself in being a jack of all trades and wearing as many creative hats as she can manage, which include (but aren’t limited to, because there’s always something new for her to learn): graphic designer, videographer, illustrator, painter, muralist, [amateur] filmmaker, and image maker. Em lives and works in Richmond, Virginia, where she has a creative practice rooted in research, storytelling, humor, and exploration. From 9-5, Em works as a Marketing Coordinator at local architecture firm, where she is an integral part of marketing operations, like marketing strategy, social media management, publication writing and production, designing and managing the website, and production of marketing collatera. Em wants to produce immersive and thought-provoking work that lingers with her audience. She is a firm believer in the power of art and design, and finds that graphic design offers unique opportunities to blur the lines between fine arts and the commercial arts.
